The Jullien family has always farmed vines, wheat and olives in Saint Saturnin lès Apt, in Provence. Since 1919 we have been producing oil from our own olives and those of other local producers at our family-owned olive mill.
Our mill combines current norms for production and traditional methods : the millstones and presses produce an olive oil which is renowned for its "fruité noir" (black fruitiness).
All our olive oil is labelled "French Olive Oil". This label, awarded by the Association Française Interprofessionnelle de l'Olive, guarantees the origin of the product. A French olive oil must be extracted in a French olive mill using olives produced in France.
Since April 2008 our honey production has been certified as organic (contrôle Ecocert).
Honey from the period of conversion (year 2008) does not carry the organic label (AB).
All the 2009 production will carry the organic label.
For some years, with our 200 hives, we have been passionately interested in bees. «Honey from the Pays Bleu» is the name we have chosen in tribute to the Luberon, a land of blue skies and lavender fields.
Every year, from spring to autumn, our bees gather nectar from flowers and the Provençal countryside as the hives are moved around between the Luberon, the Alpilles and Mont Ventoux.
Our honeys and flower pollen :
- Honey is the result of the marriage of the flower and the bee. It is the most perfect natural balance between plant, animal and man.
- Pollen is the only source of protein for bees. They harvest it from the flowers, making balls which stick to their back legs. We do not want to deprive them of proteins and only harvest the pollen for a short period using a drawer placed at the entrance to the hive.
