Halloween

For this night, the border between the dead world and the living world is not any more, and if you walk in the street after the sunset, you could meet a creature from the next world. This night is naturally the one of Halloween, on the evening of October 31st.

History of Halloween

There are countries where this holiday is prepared and expected from long weeks in advance. In particular in the United States, in Canada, in Australia, in Great Britain and naturally in Ireland where from is native this traditional holiday. The strong symbol of Halloween is naturally the pumpkin, which we sculpture in family this day. It is dug to receive a candle, then we cut a contorted face, the family work is put down then proudly on the edge of a window or at the entrance of the house. This tradition comes from Ireland, it is directly bound to the legend of Jack O'Lantern, soul condemned to roam eternally in the darkness, clamped between both worlds.

But Halloween is not that a holiday which the Anglo-Saxon are crazy about. Originally, the Celtic celebrated in formal dinners the sacred holiday of Samain. It was for them the beginning of the new year and the opportunity to honor the deaths who at night from October 31st till November 1st could in their way come to visit the living.

A magic night

There are numerous manners to celebrate Halloween, here and all around the world, the magic word is "shivers". Some people transform their house into real haunted house, disguise as monsters, devils, ghosts or witches and go hunting candies.

Other ones, once the pumpkins are switched lit, the cobwebs in place, lock themselves and look at horror movies. And there are those who take advantage of this opportunity to stay in family around a meal made with pumpkin. There are indeed numerous recipes of which the main ingredient is the pumpkin, we can eat the roasted seeds, the flesh is used to cook : tarts, bread, jam or cheese-topped dish.
