The village of Roquemaure, in the Gard, preserves the relics of Holy Valentin, the occasion to celebrate the holiday of the lovers by a reconstruction of the life at the beginning of the XIX-th century.

Roquemaure and Saint Valentin
It is the true happiness to spend this weekend of Valentine's day at Roquemaure, small town of Provence, whom in 1868 to save the ill vineyards welcomed the relics of the Holy man. Since then the inhabitants of Roquemaure take care of the Saint and he takes care of them.
Valentine's day is for Roquemaure the occasion of big festivities, time of a weekend, it is the whole city which makes a travel in the time in the XIX-th century. Beautiful costumes, made with passion are dressed by about 800 persons who through the holiday of February 14th relive this time. No corporate body is forgotten, it is the set of the society of 1868 which is so recomposed in honour of Saint Valentin. You will cross confusedly in streets and on the places of the city: the villains, the middle-class persons, the aristocrats, the acrobats or another garrison completely.
You will see certainly the eyes of the children shining with a particular brightness in the approach of roundabouts; they will discover traditional games and the professions of formerly. The grinder and the basket maker they also are a part of the holiday for the biggest delight of the children. Leave you lead and enjoy the savours of the life of erstwhile which offers itself to you. Coaches circulate casually among the crowd in the streets which renamed with the names of famous lovers streets at the moment of the holiday. Shops become again workshops in mind of the XIX -th century and barrel organs are in every corner of street, the people come to listen to the love songs of another time. It is the real sensation of travel in the time which is offered to us during this weekend.
The highlight of festivities takes place by Sunday afternoon sunny and still cold, with a big final parade which gathers all the inhabitants who are kind enough to lend themselves to the game.
This Sunday it is not far from 20 000 guests who will have attended the festivities of Valentine's day in Provence.
