What can you say to us about Nat' Images magazine ?

Fabrice Debono's article in Nat' Images magazine

Nat' Images magazine of March 2010 is the 2nd Number of this semimonthly. This magazine is a part of the same group as "Chasseur d’Image", famous magazine.

It is the editorial staff, that tired of refusing numerous files to every camera buff's publication, had the idea to create 5 years ago another magazine dedicated to all the amateurs of images : Photofan. According to the publications, files about "nature" subjects took more and more coverage.

Then, the editorial staff took a new bend for its magazine and to mark this change, it was renamed. Nat' Images was thought for images and nature enthusiasts. The published photos are exclusively "natural" photos the flora, the fauna, landscapes…

What is the subject on which you worked to be published in Nat' Images?

Fabrice Debono's article on the handling of Nikon D3S

It is in fact about a life-size test of handling of the last Nikon body. Indeed, the famous brand has just brought out a new body : the D3S which is a state-of-the-art professional digital reflex. Its characteristics are much more spread than all which was made until today... a bigger sensibility at the level of Iso, a more precise and faster autofocus.

Before its release in France, it had already created the "buzz" thanks to the photographer Vincent Munier and its photos of bear taken at 4 am in the morning. All the interest of this camera is there : take pictures in extreme conditions... meteo, light. We can almost take night photos ! It is of a big interest for every types of reports. For example, wedding photos can be taken without flash, the depiction is of a high quality and the lights are preserved. For the report in situation it allows to do very well everything without too many weak points. It is the most good all-rounder body this day !

How took place your work with Nat' Images ?

Photos of vultures taken by Fabrice Debono with the D3S

The D3S went out in France in 2009 November, I got it in December and I wanted to surf on this wave, to seize the opportunity of the release of this product to have scoop of it and propose reports.
On 2009 December 24th, I took a photo of fawn vulture with a sensibility of 12800 Iso which is the maximum sensibility and with a very slow shutter speed 125/s. Today the D3S is the only body which allows to work with such sensibilities. The visual depiction of this photo was technically perfect, the grain was very neat, very clear…

I thus sent this photo to the editorial staff of the magazine also by proposing them a report on the handling of the famous body. I obtained an answer of the chief editor at the beginning of January which announced me his interest for a "Test" report. We then corresponded by e-mail : proposition of text, validation of this one and delivery of the report on February 2nd for the release of this second number planned for 2010 March 1st.

You collaborate now for 2 years with Provence Luberon News, what it brought you ?

Fabrice Debono animal photographer

For 2 years it is a regular collaboration. Numerous reports was supplied, on local events for example : the Valentine's Day in Roquemaure, Horse Passion, the Eagles of Beaucaire, the Assault of the castle of les Baux de Provence, Nice Carnival, the Holiday of Lemons in Menton... I also supplied numerous photos reports on cities and villages of Provence : Marseille, Avignon, Aix en Provence but also Cassis, Bandol, Sanary sur Mer...

The interest of such a collaboration for me, was to be commissioned on cities or villages with a specifications (monuments, museums, symbolic places...). That allowed me to rediscover these cities and villages. The follow-up of the protocol of Provence Luberon News, allowed me to exercise me in the follow-up of a very precise specifications. It is a rediscovery of the city in all its variety.

The follow-up of a large-scale event such as Horse Passion is also very interesting because it is a demonstration with several facets, shows, events around the horse : market, sale of horses, training... What obliges the photographer to show the various aspects of a demonstration.

What looks like your job of professional photographer ?

Fabrice Debono photographer in the Luberon

Besides my collaboration with Provence Luberon News and the reports which I give them, I also work on wedding reports. It represents an important financial part, especially in summer… It is an intense and interesting work which asks for a sustained attention to be able to fix these moments of happiness. The interest of these wedding reports is to manage to break the routine of photos.

I also propose every spring and summer training courses of birds photos. These training courses turn essentially around the bee-eaters : the exotic bird mascot of the department and which attracts the amateurs. These training courses are very pleasant for me, because the relational is important, we spend a half-day or a day together, what weaves links. During these training courses the pedagogy is essential, to obtain photos of birds, it is necessary to know the behavior of the bird and to know how to behave in front of this one without frightening it… These training courses take place essentially in Vaucluse, sometimes in the Gard and in Les Bouches du Rhône.

What are your projects for this year 2010 ?

Fabrice Debono exhibits his photos of vultures

This year I join a photographic agency. What means new objectives, there are certain subjects on which they have no photos and what interest me. For example : the ecology, wooden construction, ecological construction, awareness of young people to the ecology.... Once the subject is treated, I send my photos to the agency, the agency selects then the photos which have an interest for them, I work again the selected photos for an optimized quality.

I also have more personal projects, in particular report on Average Dukes of Vaucluse whom I would like to photograph in extreme situation (twilight and at night) and to take advantage from the technical qualities of the famous D3S body. I am also going to make a report on another bird, the rollier of Europe which is a very exotic bird due to its plumage, but it is also very wild and thus difficult to photograph

The last word...

All the team of Provence Luberon News thanks you for this fruitful collaboration and wishes good luck to you for your projects 2010.

We are happy to have been able thanks to you to take advantage of scoop of your report in Nat' Images. We hope for you as for us to have other scoops this year and other reports on www.provence-luberon-news.com !
