The village of Oppede possesses a characteristic: it is constituted not by one, but by two villages:
- Oppede le Vieux
- Oppede les Poulivets
The territory of the municipality of Oppede is constituted by three different parts: the mountain of Luberon, the hills lining the mountain and the alluvial plain of Coulon. The village of Poulivets is 140 metres of height.
The municipality is a part of the regional natural reserve of Luberon
Built on a rocky spur, Oppede le Vieux is set up in a green setting constituted by the forest of Petit Luberon. This nearness between mountain relief and green valley offers a most striking setting!
The historic wealth is also appreciated by numerous tourists: at the top of the hill, paved alleys take us to the beautiful collegiate church from XII-th century, which offers a wide panorama, as well as towards the ruins of a castle from the Middle Age. The ancient houses from XV-th and XVI-th century were restored, and contribute to make of this place a space outside time.
The second village of Oppede was gradually constituted during XX-th century. While Oppede le Vieux ruins himself, houses reconstructed then gradually around le Clos des Poulivets, in the plain. Here landscape makes with vineyards, accompanied with some cereal, truck farming and orchards. Quarries of stones closed down, also remind us that the region made fame with this activity which continues today in a single quarry.
The stone of Estaillades
One extracts the stone of " Estaillades " in quarries of Oppède. Formerly exploited in subterranean galleries, it is now in opened sky that the blocks of two metres cube are cut to supply the sculptors, the stone-cutters, manufacturers of fireplaces and the building.
The colour of the stone of Estaillades is white and compact dominant with fine-grained and is notably used for the ancient monument, funeral memorials and the sculptures.

The summit of the tower is connected with the rest of the castle by a vertiginous arch. According to the legend, it is there that the antipope Benoît XIII would have flown away, helped by the devil.
Church of Notre Dame de Dolidon or Church of Alidon, situated in the top of the old Oppède, dating from XVI-th century.
There are ruins (tower and walls) of a medieval castle and vestiges of ancient workshops. Beautiful houses from XV-th and XVI-th centuries and four washing-places recently restored.
