As almost everywhere in Provence, very former tracks of human activity were found not far from the village. In the Middle Ages, the inhabitants of Eygalières are for the most part peaceful shepherds, it is in the XVIIth century when an event upset the lifestyle of the small village. In 1660, before the big revolution, the farmers become owners of their lands, it is an important bend for the small community. The agricultural vocation of Eygalières becomes more and more evident, the culture of the vineyard, olive trees and almond trees makes the wealth of this ground.
In the XIXth and the XXth century, the water, thanks to the canal of the Alpilles, and the railroad come, it is a small revolution. New possibilities offer themselves then to the farmers of Eygalières. The exploitations make more important, the local products are exported, and the inhabitants of the small perched village come down in the plain for more exploitable surfaces. The attractive stone houses close, the medieval alleys become deserted, the castle at the top of the hill soon collapses, Eygalières in the 70s is not more than the shade of what the village was.
But soon, it is a surprising reversal of the situation which people of the country are going to attend. The charm of the Alpilles, the magnificence of the landscapes, the renowned quality of life in Provence, as well as the beauty of this small perched village with old houses, are going to appeal numerous people. In search of a lifestyle closer to the nature and avoiding the frenzy of the city, numerous visitors discover Eygalières and its idyllic living environment. And soon the closed shutters of the old stone houses open again, the neglected gardens blossom again and the medieval lanes of the village revive…
A new page of the life of the village has just turned and a new vocation has been born. Numerous personalities choose then Eygalières as place of residence, so strengthening the new tourist vocation of the village. The "Mas de la Brune", built in the XVIth century for Pierre Isnard, Duc de Guise's bursar, is a real jewel of Renaissance architecture.

The Saint Sixte chapel is a Romanesque chapel which was built in the XIIth century on a rocky hillock by going out of Eygalières.
The simplicity of the chapel is lost among the natural environment on which it is situated. The chapel, surmounted by a bell tower-wall, is preceded by a hall.
The Penitents' chapel, built in the XVIIth century, welcomes today the museum of the Old Eygalières.
This museum shelters a collection of ancient tools having belonged to farmers and testifies of the prehistoric past of Eygalières.
