The Durance, river of Provence, is considered capricious from the Antiquity. But it always offered the fertility of its lands, and the inhabitants of the village of Sénas take advantage of its benefactions for centuries. Situated on the territory of the nature reserve of the Alpilles, the village of Sénas of which the vocation is mainly agricultural will make you discover its lifestyle and the relaxed rhythm of life in Provence. On the big market place do not miss one of the most beautiful "Peasant Market" of Provence and treat you of these colored stalls with tempting products. You can then take advantage of the shadow of the plane trees of the city hall place to sip quietly a glass on the terrace of a café.
Once on the city hall place you will be right in the heart of the village, small alleys lined with Provençal houses and some business streets will make you spend a pleasant moment of relaxation. For the active holidays lovers, to stay at Sénas will offer leisure activities which will certainly tempt a lot of people.
Go to the discovery of the protected nature and the landscapes of the Alpilles, numerous hikes wait for you. The Luberon and the Camargue are close and will enchant you. For the culture and history lovers, you have to know that Sénas has a passionnate history... because a prehistoric stele, which is now explained in a museum in Avignon, was discovered in Sénas. Ramparts were built in Sénas after the construction of a castle in the center of the village in the XIIIth century. There is from this time only a piece of rampart which is in the public garden.
And to discover the culture and the traditions of its inhabitants, there's nothing like to participate in one of the numerous animations which the village proposes you all year long. If you pass by Sénas at the end of August do not miss Saint Amand party, patron saint of the village. It is one of the most beautiful votive parties of the Alpilles, because it conjugates tradition and conviviality. For 3 days everyone's celebrating ! You will be able to take advantage of the "sardinade" and the "saucissade" offered by the mayor...
Sénas is a typical village of Provence, its peasant market, its local products, its small shaded place, its cafés,its church,its area for playing boules and its traditions and numerous activities... all the ingredients to spend pleasant holidays !

The peasant market of Sénas is considered as one of the most beautiful peasant markets of Provence.
Built at the end of the XIth century, Saint Amand Chapel honors the Flanders evangelist. Offered a century later to the bishop Geoffroi from Avignon, it became from then a parish church managed by the Chapter of Notre-Dame des Doms from Avignon.
In the XIVth and XVth centuries, the chapel knows transformations with the construction of the central nave, the choir, the collateral north and of the bell tower. Let us note the peculiarity of this one, an arrow decorated with rostra and more exactly with seven ("sé" in Provençal) stony "nose" (nas in Provençal) where from the joke "seven noses" (sé-nas).
In the XXIth, the church is renewed. Only the sets from the XVIIIth century are kept, of which the invaluable set of the 1st part of the French revolution.
Avenue André Aune
This "Roman" bridge built in the XIXth century, in 1812 exactly, crosses the canal of the Alpines. It is one of the numerous bridges stepping over the canals of the Alpilles.
If you wish to discover the charms of Provence, this bridge is an inescapable stopping place ! You will reach it from the dead end of the old bridge.
Art is to the fore in the Alpilles : If you go for a walk in Sénas, you will discover magnificient sculptures in the surrounding landsccape.
This stone statues were acquired by the municipality in 2006 during a seminary gathering several sculptors.
