Luberon, Provence is and has always been a significant area in France, owing to the vast resources that are found here. It has been a top target for most tourists who seek to explore the beauty that lies within. Visiting Luberon is not an exercise in futility, but it is one of the things that one would live to remember. It is set in a charming and exciting environment that enthralls anyone who seeks to have fun and enjoy life. It is a laidback and languid region in France, whose history and impact in cannot be underrated. From several decades ago, Luberon has gained major strides, most of which are as a result of increased immigration into the city. Combe de Lourmarin is the border that separates the western and eastern sides of the city.
Historically, the city has been a major agricultural hub, which has contributed to an improved economy in France. Visitors as well as residents enjoy the best fresh vegetables and lamb chops. However, a trip into the history of France reveals that Luberon was never occupied. This was not until the end of the 20th century, when several musical artists teamed up to colonize some villages such as Lacoste, Roussillon, and Gordes. The movement of the artists remained united until Peter Mayle released a book entitled “A Year in Provence”. The book was written with a rural setting in mind, and mainly revolved around Menerbes village. The movement did not, however, last past the 20th century. It died a natural death, but the fame of Luberon has remained, and has even grown stronger. Luberon is an interesting and magnificent village whose uniqueness is second to none.
The villages in Luberon have been under constant change and improvement, most of which have been as a result of the individual and corporate social responsibility of various firms.
The Charm of Luberon Villages
The village of Apta Julia was given this name since it was borrowed from Julius Cesar. The village is currently called Apt. The big market in this village rivals the markets of big cities such as Forcalquier. In the fall, one would not be surprised to witness people walking around carrying plastic bags. These people are mainly street vendors in the business of selling their wares.
Apt is known to be a major village since ancient times due to its great potential in the production of candied fruit. Historically, residents of Apt gained the knowhow of extracting sweet juice from candied fruit very early on. One squeezes the fruit and adds sugar solution to extract maximum benefit from the fruit. Anytime one passes the edge of Apt, it is possible to smell the scent of the juice.
Religion is also greatly influenced in France by the presence of Luberon. In Apt, the main religion is Catholicism. If anyone visits this great city, it is not possible to miss out on the magnificent Cathedral of Saint Anne whose history dates back to 13th century. Furthermore, the shroud of St. Anne is conspicuously seen in France. Its existence also dates back to the first crusade that was held in France.
Les Baux
Luberon has not only affected the tourism of the nation, but it has also led to the revolution of the clans in France. It changed the way clans appeared in Les Baux, beginning a major reorganization. The clans in France had not been well organized since the middle ages. While the leaders of Les Baux were fighting hard to have control of the entire area of Luberon, the people who manned the courts took over their ladies. This was interpreted by some scholars as acts of love, but it led to the change of how clans in France were organized. The lords were not happy when they found out that court poets were wooing their ladies. This led to most of the court poets being thrown out of courts and they subsequently tried to begin their own clans.
